Douches, Stars, and Dreams

Wow, this is gonna be a long one....

Yesterday I went to band class, as usual. Our band conductor has, like, these really weird mood swings or something, and he's kind of a philosopher. So I've come up with a theory. If we play well, he will either let us out early for once, or lose track of time and let us go on the bell or a few seconds after (because sometimes, we have to finish the music). Well, we did really good at our marching, and he let us out five minutes early. Or, at least, that's what I thought was the reason.

At the end of school, I find out. I sit next to one of my fellow bandies at the end of school. So when a trombone comes up and starts talking about how "Mr. B's a douche." I of course want to know why, 'cause I kind of like our philosopher teacher.

So apparently, just as I was leaving class, he called all of the people who tried out for Color Guard. He talks to them, tells them who made it in, and then he says this to the alternates, "You are only our alternates because you tried out and stepped up. You aren't good enough, but you will get there, you just need more practice." That fits with his character, to just cut to the chase and tell people why. But then he goes on. He keeps talking about how they aren't good enough, in front of the people who made it in. And as if that wasn't bad enough, I also know why my clarinet friend, B, walked out of class with a red face and puffy eyes.

Before he went to talk to the peeps who tried out for Color Guard, he asked to talk to B, who decided to quite band for high school. Instead of asking why she's quitting, he just goes out and says, "You won't get anywhere, because you can't follow through on a commitment." Wow, that's nice. Not. Then he goes on about how marching band is awesome, and that's nice, but what if based on the marching experience we've had this past week, B has decided to not do marching band? He probably said nice things as well, like how she is such a good clarinet player, she can't quit. But that doesn't change the fact that B still left band crying, and how he can't say anymore that he yells at kids, but he has never made someone cry.

I feel kind of bad for B. This news has probably spread like wildfire, especially within the band. But I hope she knows that we are on her side, and we agree with her that he's truly more of a douche than we thought.
